When Sally Foss first started working at Topeka Presbyterian Manor back in 1974, she was studying to be a teacher. Her job at the community was supposed to be temporary. But that’s not how things turned out for Sally.
Sally, a certified medication aide (CMA), celebrated her 50th anniversary at Topeka Presbyterian Manor in October.
“It’s just unbelievable,” Sally says. “I went to school to work with kids, but I guess I was always drawn to being here. But I would have never thought that I’d be here that long.”
Topeka Presbyterian Manor, and senior leadership from parent company PMMA (Presbyterian Manors of Mid-America®) commemorated this special occasion with a celebration at the community – complete with gifts, viewing of old photos, and many stories told.
“I remember the first generation,” Sally said. “I had a lady and years later her son was here. The families and the people you meet, it’s just amazing.”
Sally has had a lasting impact on the community, its residents and their families. Many commend her for her caring attitude, helping seniors with health issues.
“Sally’s dedication and commitment can’t be understated,” said Christie Patrick, Topeka Presbyterian Manor executive director. “We’re so proud of her and the legacy she’ll leave behind, whenever she’s ready to retire.”
“It’s a nice place to work,” says Sally. “I’ve formed some good relationships and friendships with the people I’ve worked with here. You form bonds with people from so many walks of life. I just see so many people come to the community and be happy.”
