Frequently Asked Questions

When you start wondering if it’s time to downsize, or thinking about having fewer household chores, it may be time to consider an independent living community. When you want peace of mind for the future, while you’re still active enough to enjoy the lifestyle benefits, you should consider moving into an independent living community.

When seniors reach a point where they need a little extra help with daily tasks, moving into an assisted living community may be a good consideration. Often there are concerns about costs, the hassle of moving, or perhaps they associate assisted living with nursing homes. Assisted living is far from a nursing home in our communities. Our seniors maintain active social lives, and they set their own daily schedules. They live in private apartments but enjoy having a maintenance-free lifestyle and receive the extra help that comes with assisted living. Assisted Living is meant to support you so you can live the way you want to live.

In Independent Living, our community offers two options. You can choose a plan with monthly accommodation fees and no up-front fees or non-refundable deposits. This plan simply requires a 30-day notice to vacate the apartment. Or you can choose our 75/25 entrance fee plan in which you pay a deposit (cost depends on style of apartment) at the time of your move. It is designed to allow for 75% of this fee to be refunded to you or your estate when you leave the community, and the residence becomes occupied. The 25% nonrefundable portion remains with the community to further its mission to provide quality services to residents.

In Assisted Living, pricing is based on the level of care a resident needs, as well as the apartment style. Topeka Presbyterian Manor has five levels of care in assisted living.

We allow a small dog, cat, two birds or fish per residence in independent living. A $500 non-refundable pet fee applies.

No, we do not accept Medicaid in Assisted Living, but we are certified in Medicaid and Medicare in our long-term care.

We provide the bed, a chair, a nightstand, a dresser, and a television. Residents or their loved ones should bring anything to make them feel more at home such as photos, décor, hobby items, and other favorite things. They should also bring a week’s worth of clothing, including nightwear and other personal items.

In all levels of care, our doors are locked between 8 p.m. – 6 a.m. and a team member regularly walks the buildings during those hours. Local law enforcement also drives through campus at night.

For independent living, entrance doors to Garden and Tower apartments are always locked and key is required to enter. In assisted living, nursing staff is available 24/7 and long-term care is a 24-hour supervised community.
